Gmail is testing my patience
I don’t know what’s going on lately (the last 2 weeks), but for me, Gmail has been lagging beyond the extreme. It’s taking nearly 10 seconds to archive or open an email. I’m only using 30% of the alloted space, so it doesn’t have anything to do with that. It’s to the point where I’m not reading email more than once a day. That could arguably be a good thing, but not under these conditions. Hopefully things speed up soon…

Yahoo Mail! comment spam. That’s just weird. Anyway, GMail has been a bit slow for me lately, but I’m blaming it on Firefox, because Firefox routinely “locks up” for 5-15 seconds (sometimes over a minute) and it’s really starting to annoy me. So much so that I tried a few other browsers, but they failed to impress.

Yeah, but did you see those great features? Powerful spam protection AND Photomail? I’d be silly not to switch over to Yahoo!
Yeah, Firefox has been letting me down somewhat, lately. Again, with the 2.0.0.6 update, I had to uninstall/reboot/reinstall/reboot to get things running. I removed a majority of the extensions I had, as I heard they can bog it down. But nothing seems to help. It’s definitely a memory hog… Safari is growing on me, mainly because of its speed. Flock is still too community-based, and it’s driven by FF, anyway. IE is out, so I don’t know what the answer is. Since I spend plenty of time in a browser, I’d prefer a fast one.
As for Gmail, it’s been terribly slow in Safari, too.
And the Yahoo! exclamation point needs to go away… I can’t stand it.

Just got an inside tip—Jerry Yang is an impostor.

I used Yahoo mail back in 1987…
Seriously, I haven’t seen a slow down in gmail…. oh yeah… I use Flock. Nevermind :)

Pretty sure it’s not the browser… Safari smokes every browser I’ve used in terms of speed, and Gmail is hanging there, too.
Besides, Flock uses the same underlying engine Firefox does, right? In fact, it’s not only the same, but it is the Firefox engine. That leaves the only difference between the two being how Firefox let’s you choose what you want to add on, where Flock somewhat imposes on that choice
and assumes you’re a social networking butterfly by integrating every community service under the sun. Of course, it’s only a matter of time before Firefox goes social, too.Chris Sunday, 05 Aug, 2007 Posted at 10:52AM
I’m going to have to keep around an old copy of Firefox or find a different browser if they do end up adding social elements to it. Firefox is seriously turning into major bloatware.

I agree… hopefully those features can be turned off in the about:config section. If not, I’m giving up and going back to IE4.

Yeah, I’ve been finding Gmail extremely slow lately too. I was laying blame on my ever-slower DSL line… but now, doing non-objective tests on FF on my old Windows machine and FF on my rockin’ new Core 2 Duo MacBook, the MacBook does seem way faster opening Gmail messages.
